Soprazocco (in dialect Suercòch, in Latin Suprasocci) is a small ancient village and one of the first settlements in the Brescia area to be inhabited. Its name derives from "suer" (near) or "sopra" (above) the Zocco, indicating villages or territories above a hill. Soprazocco is nestled among the mountains Faita, Torcolo, Zocco, Fai, Covolo, and the Morainic Hills of Garda, at an average altitude of 400 m above sea level.
Just a few kilometers away, you can discover Italy's largest lake, spanning the provinces of Brescia, Verona, and Trento – one of the greatest natural treasures of the country. The hills and mountains that frame it and the charming villages along its shores create a beautifully varied and fascinating landscape.
Here are some villages worth visiting:
  • Sirmione with its Scaligera Castle and the Grotte di Catullo;
  • Salò with its gulf and noble buildings;
  • Gardone Riviera and the Vittoriale degli Italiani;
  • Riva del Garda with its fortress and bay;
  • Malcesine and the nearby Monte Baldo;
  • Bardolino and the Valpolicella and many more.
Every destination can be easily reached by land, mainly via the scenic Gardesana road running along about three-quarters of the lake, by ferry, or by renting a boat at the local harbors. The area offers a wide range of activities for visitors of all tastes and interests. Art lovers can explore local museums and the charming streets of historic villages. Sports enthusiasts will enjoy cycling, horseback riding, golf on one of the many courses, or windsurfing on the lake. For children – and adults too – a day at Gardaland (Castelnuovo del Garda) or Canevaworld (Lazise) is a must. Nature lovers should visit Parco Natura Viva (Pastrengo), Parco Giardino Sigurtà (Valeggio sul Mincio), and Giardino Giusti (Verona), or simply enjoy the many walking trails through the countryside. Hidden among the woods and gentle hills, the three lakes of Sovenigo are also worth a visit – the finest example of an intramorainic basin in the southern Garda area. Food lovers can taste the local extra virgin olive oil or freshwater fish dishes. Wine enthusiasts can travel the entire lake, stopping at the estates of some of Italy's most celebrated wines, with tastings offered by the local wineries.
